Why we need digital citizenship
Citizenship is a person's effective participation in their society; digital citizenship is the quality of their participation in the digital world, in daily habits, and in what they produce and consume. Seven pillars: empathy, since text without tone breeds misunderstanding and bullying; how the internet works; what data means and who holds it; digital literacy against clickbait, misinformation, and fraud; the digital divide; safe practice and screen time; and securing devices. The essay argues these belong in the region's schools, especially for children going online for the first time.
